Alien Tyrannosauroid by Fishtits

Alien Tyrannosauroid

Fishtits

Well here it is, the final product of my painting progress. I feel pretty good about this one despite taking some time to complete, though this may have had to due with taking my time to get used to the new brushes for painting and coloring. However the result has been one of the most detailed and most epic pieces I've done so far.

So with that out of the way why don't I describe this dude for a bit.

Wanted to go a little more fantasy with this guy being on an alien world and gave it a more carapace coated appearance which fits this sorta other worldly look. Though a lot of the inspiration for the design choice was derived from here.

The feet and arms I'm very proud of from their over all design. The feet I based off of Zygodactyl, primarily found on owls which for this big guys case would be to help crush prey under his feet with the power they can wield. Hands were pretty fun to mess with in concept. The whole idea I wanted to try was the hands would fit into an imprint area on the carapace coated chest covering delicate organic like flesh on the arms. Sort of like a Pangolin or an Armadillo rolling up to cover its exposed areas, except it would be in theory for his delicate arms.

The skull was also an awesome part to draw. Wanted to add a sort of Guanlong like crest since I figured if it had a different variation of evolution the crest could remain to potentially attract mates, or intimidate rival competitors (or I'm just a fanboy of Guanlong and wanted to put it on him for the sake of things :V). Then noticeably the teeth on the upper jaw is exposed with fleshy gums. Thought it'd add an intimidating factor to not only see the big teeth on this guy, but also see the future teeth growing outward within the gums. With no lips covering his gums however he'd have to regularly lick his gums to keep them moist.

Despite the time on this i'm sure/know I've made some mistakes on this piece and hope to improve upon later down the line, so please don't hesitate to leave some constructive criticism in the comments to let me know what I could improve.
