First Snow (With Story!) (critique requested)

Fang's Crayon Box

I love winter. I love the colder temperatures, I love the snow, I love that people don't get on my case about going outside, I love it! The only thing I don't like is how the air quality suffers horribly here, but that's Utah's fault, not winter's! Originally I planned to do this once it started snowing here, but we had a cold snap last week and I figured "good enough". Of course that's gone now... ^^;

This picture is also pretty special, it's the first non ref appearance of Fang's dad! :D That's why I wrote a short little story to go with it (don't be too hard on me I'm not a writer.):

**It was a mid October morning as Fang began to wake from his peaceful sleep. Likely in response to the presence of a certain fox leaning over his crib and looking down at him.
“Hey there little guy. Sleep well?”
Fang rubbed his eyes with his paws and let out a small yawn, mumbling a bit through the pacifier firmly planted in his maw.
“You want to change him, or should I?” said a voice from the other side of the room. Upon fully waking up Fang realized it wasn't his mom leaning over his crib as usual, it was his dad, Alistar. Work had often called him away from home for weeks, or sometimes months, at a time so this was a rare sight.
“I suck at it, but sure, I may as well do it while I have the chance.” Alistar picked Fang up out of his crib before he could really react, phased a bit by the change in routine.
“Ok... let's see if I can get this... any advice Ria?” Ria chuckled a bit and moved next to the changing table, gently petting her son's hair. “Well first, you'll need to get him out of his jammies.”
What followed was far from one of Fang's routine diaper changes, Alistar's lack of practice resulted in triple the number of usual wipes being used, an almost backwards diaper, and clouds of baby powder floating in the air. Ria had decided not to help and simply chuckled in the corner as Alistar failed what had become simple tasks for her.
“Alright, go wash your paws and I'll make sure his diaper is on right.” Alistar sighed a bit as he shyly rubbed the back of his head. “Sorry about that... I'll do better next time.”
It had been a bit sloppy sure, but after examining Fang's new diaper Ria decided Alistar had done a decent job. It wasn't as perfect as she usually got it, but it wasn't bad enough to cause the diaper to malfunction in any way.

After that, Ria sat down in the rocking chair and fed Fang his breakfast. Alistar returned once he was all done and lifted his infant son up into his arms, carrying him into the front room as Ria followed behind him. Once there, Fang started reaching his arms out towards the door to the backyard. “I think he wants to go outside...” Ria paused for a moment as she considered this. “Hmm.. nope, sorry sweetie, it's a bit to cold out today. Winter is starting to set in...”
“Oh, I know!” Alistar went over to the couch and grabbed a small pillow from it, walking over to the large window in the room and setting the pillow down on the ledge. “You can't go outside, but you can look all you want.” He said as he sat Fang down on the pillow, both him and Ria setting next to him on the ledge.
“I like this time of year.” Ria said as she sat down and maneuvered her tail into a comfortable position. “Yeah, me too.”
Fang placed his paws on the window and sat on his knees as he looked out the window in awe as he noticed small white flakes falling from the sky. “What are you looking at sweetie?” Rai inquired. “Oh hey, it's starting to snow. You haven't seen snow yet have you Fangy?” Fang simply shook his head in response. “Well we'll have to take you outside once we get you some winter clothes then.” Alistar said as he smiled down at his little kit and petted his hair. “That reminds me, I should probably start making him wear a shirt around the house until it warms up.” Ria chuckled a bit as she said this, resting her back against the window as all three of them stared up at the snowy sky.**
