Entirety Species: Stawgn by FamiliarAlien

Entirety Species: Stawgn

FamiliarAlien

And here's the last species I wanted done for 2015! Not exactly ending it off with a bang like I did with the characters but I wanted another urban species darn it!

Stawgn are a medium size domestic species of the planet Desergen (home planet of the Deserge and Moln. The Saitek also live there but they migrated from elsewhere). As I've mentioned briefly before desergen has the unusual trait of having large arthropods with 4 limbs rather than 6 or more like in most places which I felt the need to point out it wasn't I was too lazy to draw more! They are primarily kept in domestication by the deserge because they don't require an excessive amount of food and apparently taste delicious. Yep these are edible bugs MMMMMMMMMMM YUM! Supposedly their meat taste sorta like crab. They are consider a dietary staple in many areas on main land Desergen as well as being the main meat source in nearly space bound colonies. As you can see by the image on the side they aren't actually grass grazer as you would think, they actually mostly chew on shrubbery and use those pincer on the front to get a good grip of it.

As far as behaviour goes they have a temperament similar to sheep, they're not all that aggressive though there's potential for it and you can control them as herd easily enough if you know what you're doing.
A few small things to note: yes those things on their back on vestigial wings, they haven't done any flying in millions of years but they never actually fully lost the appendage, they do produce specific buzzes with them as communication. On the note of communication their name is actually a onomatopoeia of a vocal voice they frequently make, they share this naming method with eap. Apparently deserge as a species have taken advice from the humans in the Pokeyman animated series.
Also before you point it out yes I got the idea for cow bug aliens from Futurama, its kinda a joke in a lot of sci fi series that aliens seem to eat all these weird gross creepy crawlies so it kinda makes sense we should actually see them farming such creature while they're still alive. It was a good reference to make!

3 sentient species, quite a crowded planet. you'd think people would be put off by desert climate but, nooooo . (I mean just look at Tatooine and Dune, EVERYbody wants to go there. desert planets must be the beaches of sci-fi. :p)

well Saitek got there via accident and Moln live underground so its not as bad as it could have been ^^;. That said that is a good point, Tempae is another planet in my sci fi with 3 sentient species though that one has a lot more climate variety (its quite similar to earth with tall mountains and flat plains in thick rainforests etc..)

        what species live there?

        • Link

That would be the Ginaga, Ferron and Chi'Tsao. They were able to live in harmony for literally most of the history of their planet due to two of them evolving on different environments/continents/ecological niches.

ah, the alien scientists you like so much. though i suppose to them, it must seem just normal.

            • Link

its as normal as its going to get I think, they've gotten used to the idea of sharing their planet with two other species since they kinda discovered each other over the last few centuries. Some Ferron however need to learn to share a bit, they dominate the vast majority of the planet and they still insist on encroaching on the single city country most of the Ginaga live in not to mention cutting down trees sometimes without even checking if Chi'Tsao have homes on them. I mean they can fly so if their home knock to the ground they're likely to survive but still!

              • Link

so the Ferron are, to put it mildly, inconsiderate.

Hmmm, what is the technology level of these races? I get the impression the Ferron and Chi'Tsao are tribal?

                • Link

You're half right, the Chi'Tsao are kinda like the Amish in the sense most of their species doesn't subscribe to the idea of electronic type technology so they live in a more traditional kinda way. Ferron have technology around where humans are, maybe a little less advance in most areas so they live pretty in a pretty modern kinda situation.
