Dorky and anxious

FamiliarAlien

My relatable child I wanted to draw before moving on redoing a few character sheets that still need revision. After that I should finally be able to move on to new content for my sci fi!
This is one of those images that hard to explain in short terms but I'll try: My natural way of drawing is complex and with lots of clustered detail. If I had assistance for doing things like colouring and backgrounds I could maybe use it for a webcomic but since I'm a one man army I've had to create an artificial style that's visually interesting but isn't time consuming to draw. Every character that's gotten revisions is the victim of being too much like my natural style. Darwin did get a revision not long ago (the image I linked) but I wanted to see if there was a few things I could do even better. So this is why this sketchdump happened.

So yeah drew Darwin being themself doing different things, a lot these make sense in context of the character. Let's try to list things:

  • They love the summer in Canada because its actually nice and warm. Thing is the sun hurts their eyes because nocturnal alien species hence the parasol and cute little hat.
  • Darwin loves robots... but apparently not little noisy toy robots. Natalie is understandably confused by that nuance.
  • More Darwin looking nervous. They do that a lot, its basically their default. I couldn't use it on their actual character sheet because being that squished in makes it hard to have reliable reference for body parts.
  • Their species of alien actually spends their entire childhood clinging to a adult especially when they're resting. Darwin unfortunately does not have this. If they can't use Natalie as the thing to hold when they sleep they find other things.
  • Being a different species also means Darwin's concept of scary an cute is different. To them spiders are adorable (as seen here) but would probably be really nerved up by the presence of a house cat or a seagull.

Hopefully all that rambling makes sense of things!

haha this is like "screw it, my style is angles, so let's make it all super angular" and I like it for being unapologetically you XD

lol, thanks for the comment! Yeah one thing I have been doing is trying to make my style really... pop in a way so I'm trying to remove curvy lines in design as much as possible. May as well it definitely is making things look pretty unique.
