Spoiler - They all die

The song I am referring to is "Saku Sammakko Kosiomatkalla", a finnish children's song where a frog proposes a mouse who has engaged with a mole but ends up marrying the cricet.

And in this story, frog, mouse and rat are having a party, then cat and her kittens come and murder the rodents and the duck swallows the escaped frog. Thank you, Randolph Caldecott!

Indeed! In the back of the book it reads: "The humour of Randolph Caldecott's drawings is simply irrestible, No heartly-warmed man, woman or child could look at them without laughing" ... People in the 1880's had some peculiar sense of humor.

there's nothing that says light hearted humor more than dead babies and mass family slaughter

I was taught a very similar song in grammar school but I forget how it went exactly
