This is the opening illustration to a very special, personal project I am undertaking. Briefly, it's a sketchbook with the theme of my character (Elrond Drakendíl) and the dragons she has met. Properly it's called I Parma Drakendillion which is high elvish for "The Book of Drakendíl," I just started it this summer. Already I have contributions from three of my favorite artists, and my hope is in the years to come I'll be able to get my various artistic idols/friends to draw dragons in it. But to begin the journey, I wanted to do a picture myself… and this is it.
I began sketching this during my holiday in Scotland, and worked on it all through that trip, before finally finishing it on my last day in Germany after Eurofurence. The mountains are an odd mix of Scottish highlands, Arthur's Seat, and some of the mountains around my home town. There are two dragons, if you look closely: my friends Dafydd and Corlie.
The Drakendillion is invitation only, and I'm not sure if I'll be posting the pictures that go into it. If you see me at a con, however, chances are I have it with me, and I'll be happy to show it to you. I even have some guest pages in the back if you'd like to leave a comment.
Graphite pencil on a spread of a Paperblanks Equinoxe Carmine Grande journal. Which looks as impressive as it sounds, trust me. ;)
