I was approached at MFF last year about doing a series of elemental horses in a similar style to my Planet Horses. This is the first, representing Fire. I used an Arabian as a base for the horse, both because of their history as a hot-blooded breed, and also their mannerisms: Arabians are extremely agile, swift horses, but also strong: like wildfire.

I really enjoyed doing this one—it is not unlike something I would have drawn for my own pleasure, and so I was able to pour a lot of love into it.

Watercolor, colored pencil, and gold paint pen on bristol board. 9"x12"

I love how the hair and limbs seem to give off a bright glow while the core of the body looks almost molten. Nice work with the gold pen border as always. :D

Thanks! That gold pen is getting to be a bit temperamental—but it looks so fine!
