Shark Week 2017--Melanie, the Black-Tip Reef Shark

(EDIT--8/5/2019: When these were initially made, I was not feeling that great, but I was so passionate about these and so determined to get them posted on the appropriate dates that me and my team only added the bare minimum of details to each one. This year, they have been refurbished with species names and frames added to the ones that didn't have them, and literal water-marks for all of them, plus tags and text descriptions like the ones below, and finally I have reposted all of them to my other sites. I'm sorry for the long delay, and I hope you enjoy the new up-dates!)

Happy Shark Week, everybody!

It's only been 7 months since I've created this account, and I decided the perfect way to get a head start in filling it up with fun pictures and adventures is to post little week-long collections--like the one back in Spring, and the one celebrating the start of Summer. To be perfectly honest, though, it's not easy to cobble together an entire week's worth of art...but it's a lot of fun, too.

So I decided to make a tradition out of the practice with a single collection every Summer, each celebrating a different occasion or aspect of the season and drawn with a different art style and/or technique. This year, I decided to celebrate Shark Week with pixel art of various anthro sharks in their natural habitats.

And I'm beginning with Melanie--a Black-Tip Reef Shark.

These sharks tend to live among the tropical coral reefs of the Indian and Pacific oceans and once they find a nice area to stay in, they'll stay there for up to several years at a time. These sharks are very timid and almost harmless to humans, unless the taste of food in the water catches their attention. They may also accidentally bite a human's leg in search of food, but they never intend to eat a human. In fact, like most sharks, they probably don't really like the way humans taste!

Melanie here, like other sharks of her kind, is the timid type. She is an avid photographer who prefers to work alone, being her own model, and specializes in goth-style photography, like this number right here.

Tune in tomorrow, of course, to see another shark just like this one!
