I couldn’t resist drawing the dream I had last night. It was short and might have been a scene from a larger dream I’m not remembering, but this is what I recall. It had a very Legend of Zelda like-vibe, as though I was the main character of this video game going about a great quest. Even though I was the character, I was viewing myself in third person (adding to the video game feel). Here’s the dream:
The setting was a magic forest temple, and I crossed an open room to get to a door to retrieve what was on the other side. The room was empty except for some grass, and the center was a dirt path (very zelda, right?). There was also a tree branch full of leafs, and a happy-faced baboon minding its business. Going though the door, the dream skipped to where I was exiting through the way I came, apparently finished what I had to do in that room, and now needing to back track.
But going through the door, the room was now completely different, and even my own apearnace changed. I was now in a cloak, wearing a skull mask with purple flames for eyes. The dirt path was gone, replaced with a broken wooden bridge, and beneath me was a deep pit. At the bottom of the pit was nothing but swirling purple flames and a door. The only way to get to the door was a wooden walk way that began on the other side of the broken bridge.
My character is shocked! And from above, I hear a voice. It’s from a demonic baboon, sitting on a dead branch jutting out from the wall. This is what he tells me:
"Do not be frightened. What you are experiencing is a vision. A vision of what this placed looked like a thousand years ago, before it was taken over by this enchanted forest, full of life. Back when it was a land of the dead. See that door, bellow? It still exists…under the dirt and rock. Find a way to get me to that ancient door, and I shall reward you…"
I tried to do a speed painting of the scene. Here is the result.
