Apartment WIP: Lapsa Ascending a Staircase

The stairs! Yes, as I've come to realize, bipedal digitigrades present unique challenges in design in this context. Sure, you could pretend they're basically humans in high heels walking up those stairs. You'd even have some success in finding references of that. But would that really be how they're comfortable moving up the stairs? Angled like a pair of stiff shoes? Do their knees and hips really need bend that much further to account for that change in proportion as a human does?

No, these Lapsa would design their stairs to be traversed (relatively) comfortably! The proportions would be made to suit themselves and thus my, admittedly still-kinda-wonky, model's anatomy.

And as with other things I pointed out in the prior upload, the stairs proportions and measurements dictate key components of the surrounding scene. If I want the scene to feel right, the stairs need to fit in. If I want to ensure the stairs meet the 2nd floor at the front on the one side of bedroom because I imagine a character hidden on the bed until the last moment of ascent, I need to know where to place the landing, how many steps there will be, etc etc etc.

As for this WIP, I am not completely sold on the proportions or the pose just yet. The proportions feel like they could work, but I'm not sure they will work with a comfortable pose. This pose doesn't feel quite natural yet and maybe a tad uncomfortable. Maybe I need more test poses, or should try different proportions.

It's times like this I wish I could figure out how to rig IK right on this thing.

Great design work! Good luck with the Inverse Kinematics. They're a complete pain, I know!
