Spending several days contemplating the meaning of friendship has taken its toll on a lot of my energy, with as much as I've been subjected to, the dark thoughts I had and spent hours discussing with the people who honestly dragged me by the scruff out of the pit of hurt and negativity I felt towards myself and others, I've come to understand one very big difference between friends, and acquaintances.

Friends, will be there no matter how often you mess up... will tell you when you screw up... and help you fix those fuck ups while laughing at how often they've done the same thing. They'll talk about their lives, and listen to you tell them about yours and not judge, but offer advice on how to make things better.

They aren't willing to be walked on, and will call you on your shit when you're being particularly stupid, or, when you're doing something good and offer you support, to make sure you stay on the right track. They're people who are there for you, no matter the amount of time, who will pick up the phone the minute you call or send a text message, and will talk you through the bad times no matter how hard you're crying.

Even when they aren't there physically to hold you when you need it the most, their spirit and well wishes are strong enough to make you feel wanted, needed, and loved.

I have very few people in my life that have affected me that deeply, fewer still that I opened up to fully and exposed myself down to the very core.

These friends saw me at my most vulnerable, and gave me strength and love.

Acquaintances are people who /don't care/ enough to see that vulnerability... and prefer everything to be 'fair weather'. They'll be there for you... only when its convenient.

Its for them I feel the most sorrow, because they will never know me... or the person I can be.

To all the friends out there who know someone that has needed them... thank you.

We know how much you need us too.
