If you're feeling quiet, you can watch the paint progress here and the music I painted it to. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isjSBfB-OuM
Sometimes it's tempting to just lay down and let the water take you in. I struggle with terrible depression, and this came out of a deep, deep low I was having one day. Now it's soothing to look at, so I guess therapeutic art works even months later.
I can relate to the feeling, having depression and anxiety myself, it used to be absolutely crushing for me and wanting to quit was a daily struggle. Feels a lot like being underwater and hurting because you can't breathe, but wanting to succumb and inhale anyway. Thank you for sharing, despite the dark place this came from it -is- very soothing to look at.
Sometimes, it's all you can do to keep your head above water. Sometimes, it's enough to just be able to breathe.
Too true. And, despite the message of depression, water really is my element, especially hot water (which is why I chose snow monkey for my character even; I'm obsessed with warm water.) It's pretty much the only time the anxiety goes away, when I'm in near-scorching water and just laying still. My brain slows way down and I just get (happily) blank. So in a way this was a piece about dissociation/departure from anxiety as well. :]
This is so so amazing. <3 The lighting and the water, it seems like real to me.
I'm very sorry to read you have to fight with depression aswell. And I hope you also have some good days from time to time.
Thank you basangi! I certainly do have good days, yeah. I think that my depression has helped make me the person I am today (for good or bad). I am a quieter and gentler person now because I have that sensitivity inside. It's made me a better person, though it is incredibly painful sometimes; it makes me more likely to look to others for love and help, and has made me develop a sense of humility that, coming out of my teens and early 20s, was definitely needed. ;P
I guess I understand. And sorry for the long reply! I had trouble finding something to say and still do, but it was important for me to reply anyways. Oh well.
The song you used in your progress video clinches on me for some weeks now.
The entire album is hugely inspiring for me, beautiful and haunting. The whole album is in this playlist: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=II-mfLZJag0&list=ALGLx1orRGw4V5_It2Qtg0AYYnAmq6cukQ I hope you enjoy it if you get a chance to listen! Old Skin, A Stutter, and For Now I am Winter are favourites of mine. :)
wow, this is really gorgeous. I love how you made your signature almost look like ripples in the water. and the water droplets on the whiskers is such a small detail but it really adds a lot to the piece.
Thank you for uploading the progress on this! The evolution of the work is stunning. I had originally thought this was a skillful photo-manipulation layered with digital painting, so your personal skill really shows through!

I love how the signature was subtlely added in.
