Skin diving during Shark Week - ALWAYS a bad idea.

Or Freediving, if you prefer to call that. Art by Jakkal Jakkal

The first sign of trouble was when he realized that, despite his goggles being swept away by mistake (and would probably not be found for awhile!) the saltwater wasn't harming his eyes at all. Mentally, he heard the Sonic drowning theme. He was no Guybrush Threepwood - and he had no breathing gear. He started to swim up towards the surface. He stopped when he suddenly realized that he saw his hand... it had turned even darker than before, this wasn't a natural tan. Not only that, he felt something odd in between his fingers. He was so distracted by the protrusions at his arms that he didn't notice that his neck had apparently sliced open at the sides - and now oxygen was entering his system through them. He then felt piercing sensations through his palate, as his nose seemed to vanish into his head He gritted his rows of teeth, as he looked down at the rest of his body. His entire skin had turned a dark brownish grey - lighter around his front. Just like his hands, his feet had become webbed. A new appendage waved in between his legs, a fluked tail. Fins emerged from the backs of his arms - and when he elt behind him, there was one right out of his back, above the base of his tail.

Then he realized that he was still underwater. And he hadn't drowned. He gasped, as water flooded his lungs - he should have died right there, but he didn't. In fact, it felt somewhat refreshing, like he could also breathe this way. Or maybe this was how he would speak underwater. He was still afraid to, quite yet... would he have to move into the ocean, or would he be able to still breathe with his lungs? He certainly didn't look like one of those mers - in fact he still had legs.

Of course he'd find out soon though - after he had smacked himself for remembering that this was Shark Week.
