Who says all lawyers are sharks?

This is a complete redo of a 13 year old picture I did for a graphic for the legalese section of an old website I built myself at the time. It's taken me this long to revisit the idea but I like doing so to see how much my art skills and thought processes have changed during the intervenening time. This took longer to complete than it should have. Thank goodness for Syfy original movies. I get more art done with them on as background noise than just about anything else including music it seems.

Wow, so much to say about this one... Where to start...

First off, the scene itself. Danielle's grin really catches the eye, and I think it's best summed up by your first line there: "Who says all lawyers are sharks?" She may not be a shark biologically, but that display of dentistry could give any one of your ladies of the surf a run for their money! And if I were the defendant going up against her, I think I would need a change of underwear. That grin is downright intimidating.

As for the composition, the original piece was quite nice, and I loved the different variants you did on it in sketches a couple months ago, but color really adds a whole new dimension to it. I really love your choice of color for her outfit, with the vibrant red for her suit jacket contrasts so well with the gentle blue of her shirt, and the grays and subdued reds of her tie really "tie" it all together ;) I also love how you cross-hatched for her stockings; it's a very convincing texture. The pearly effect of her skin is really great, too. The way you use shades of red and blue together in the shadows are perfect for it. The little details really add a great finishing touch to it, too, like the slight reflection in the polished wood of her desk, and the very well-textured diploma on the wall. Really realistic design and texture to it! Your attention to detail never fails to amaze.

I know you worked on this piece for a long time, and it shows, so much. Bravo!

...And Dani, please don't eat me!

Thank you for that comment. You really outdid yourself. Perhaps you're still somewhat in thesis mode? The shirt is one of several changes from the original where it was a gold shade. I wish I could say I put a great deal of thought into wanting a warm-cool contrast between the shirt and her suit jacket but in truth, I just like mixing red and blue. I'd also like to say I put a great of thought into the tie too but it was just the mental image I had and I didn't want a plain tie as I'd done before. Perhaps on a subconcious level I was "thinking" of all of these things. The reflection as a last minute idea. I wanted the desk to look like a real high class executive style and high gloss works to convey that. Plus it adds a bit of challenge and visual interest to an otherwise flat field of color. And I reference the look of the diploma thanks to a couple on Google Images. The frame I winged it a bit based on some recollection of other document frames I've seen.

Thank you. I'm so glad you've enjoyed the results especially after hearing about it for so long.

...And I think you're safe. She might molest you but that's about it.

She'd be giving me a demonstration of all the things that can legally classify as sexual harassment?

I love your coloured works. This is so well done, and I especially like Dani's expression in this one. Good work!

Thank you. I'm trying to focus more on color and more or less finished pieces now that I don't use traditional media at work. I'd like to keep those skills from deteriorating if I can. Of all of the things I changed from the original, that expression wasn't one of them - she had it 13 years ago and she has it now in this version.

Details, details! I love them all! This manages to be both classy and very modern at the same time, and the overall dynamic is great. ^__^

Thank you Flynn. The basic pose remained the same from the original version though I made a couple of slight alterations so the dynamic was already there. The details were the one thing I felt would help this one really stand out from the original.
