Country Girl by Dharken

Country Girl

Dharken

It's said some people wrap themselves in the flag on a metaphorical level but this bald eagle has taken the phrase literally with the Stars and Stripes of the U.S. of A. flag.

This piece dates back to 2005 but that's a bit deceptive. I actually started it much earlier when I worked on her beak then stopped for a number of months, possibly up to a couple of years, as I tried to figure out how to color and shade her feathers properly. I can credit good photo references of bald eagle closeups as well as the American flag in helping to create this piece.

    Good lord! That embroidery! Those feathers! The DETAIL! I am officially flabbergasted.

    I think a bald eagle is just about the only creature who can get away with this. >_> haha

    Spectacular detail, Dharken!

      I'll admit it wouldn't look quite right with another country's flag or a different animal in this one. If Benjamin Franklin had his way way back when though, I'd have been drawing a turkey instead. They're not nearly so beautiful.

        I was thinking about how old Ben wanted a turkey, yeah. :}

      And thank you on the detail. I had a lot of helpful reference including a good one of a flag to work from.
