In the Summer Sale, a bunch of friends grabbed Payday 2. And they've all been wanting me to play with them. It's been a blast getting back into the game after not playing it since launch. And luckily, none of them have ANY interest in what the Ghost tree has to offer, so I'm not stepping on anyone's toes with skill selection. Everyone says the panda mask is "perfect" for me, so I haven't taken it off since I got it.

Fun little doodle amidst being busy with work and stuff. stigmata, in my last traditional thing, suggested I try some opaque white. So I did. My first strokes with it were on the shoulder, and oops, it's a bit bright and heavy. Wasn't expecting it to apply like that. I think it worked a lot better when I drybrushed it on the face, or did very small strokes on the side of the coat. So the shoulder is a bit out of place, but that's okay. I know for next time.

Is this pencil or charcoal? Either way...the black and white look very beautifully balanced!

Both, actually! Toned paper, pencil (H through 4B), black charcoal for the deeper blacks, white charcoal for the highlights, and then some cheap brush correction fluid for opaque white.

      Thank you! <3

Ah! Very great use of mixed media!!!

        And you're most welcome!

I like the value you bring into this. You use just enough of the materials to make it look nice. A couple of things I would suggest are bringing in a little bit more dark values (with possibly a harder charcoal) and working a little more on planar structure. I still love the amount of white used. It brings a lot of drama. :>

I hear you on planar structure. I have a weird tendency of making some things really polygonal, and then some things really smooth. If I'm thinking of the right concept that you're mentioning. I'm not as bad as I used to be, but I could use the work. I'll make a note on my little post-it note of critiques to be more aware of that if I can. And thank you for noting that I'm using "just enough"! I tried to scale it back from the last traditional thing I did (which, having been away from it for a bit, looks kind of cluttered and hard to read), so it's good to know that this looks nice. I'll try to keep that balance in mind in the future too, with a nod to pushing my darks to be darker, or even opaque.

      Thank you! <3

I like the pose, especially the part he is cleaning his pistol.

I always feel like my standing poses are stiff and uninteresting. I'm glad to hear you like it! It means I'm doing something right, even if I can't always see it myself. Thank you!
