Moving Forward by Deriaz

Moving Forward

Deriaz

A commission for DxManiac of FA. Expanding upon the idea that I sketched for him, but in the new year, working to move beyond rather than just fighting.

With Dx's permission, I got a little ambitious with this grayscale! Same time limit as the others, but I wanted to see how far I could take a scene idea in the amount of time I had, or if I'd need to use more time to bring it up to par with the others. I'm actually extremely happy that I managed to get all of this in my time budget~

Whoa definitely diggin' this piece -- nice work! Part of my mind though can't exactly reconcile if the primary antagonist head is directly behind or closer to the 'viewer' and still following along, but the red lighting does help significantly.

Considering the intriguing style of this piece, I dunno if Shovel Knight retro-esque music fits it, I got an interesting chuckle at the linked soundtrack, but definitely wouldn't have expected it to be what comes to mind for this piece, but that's not a critique on the piece as opposed to the music choice :P

Ohhhh, good point on that head. I didn't actually even think about that -- I think perhaps maybe moving it to have the hand just in front of the head might help? I don't really have much other information helping that point out, now that I look again. Noted!! Thank you!!

As for the music, yeah, that's also entirely fair. Sometimes I like to match it up in tone! Other times, it might just be something clever with the title, or if I'm really unsure, just music that I like that I was either listening to a lot while painting it, or even recently came across. I started doing it a few years back to make my pages a little more interesting (can't recall if I copied it over here to Weasyl with the really old submissions; was definitely doing it on FA) to try to draw people in to interact with not just the image itself but the description. It sort of became a habit, one I sometimes wonder if I should still do or not, since I stream and share music there instead!

      Thank you so much! <3

Sure thing! I'm no artist, so I'm glad what I did say made sense and somewhat helped! As for the music, I get where you're coming from, either way it's nice to potentially expand my music repertoire so either way keep it up! :)
