i imagine her as not simply a big hungry monster - she has an entire world within her - a dark, dangerous landscape inhabited by gods and monsters and the souls of the dead n.n once she eats you your troubles have just started <3

within her most deities may come and go at will - while mortals have a difficult time leaving her - except through judgment of their souls - as embodied by the weighing of their heart against the feather of Ma'at - the virtuous are exhaled like smoke by Duat while the unworthy stay within her FOREVER - well maybe

(although given that the ancient Egyptian religion doesnt get a lot of play these days it is possible no souls are judged and simply collect within her - that may explain in part why she has become so big ^.^')

it is interesting to note that virtually all places and concepts in ancient Egyptian religion have associated deities (e.g. Geb and Nut, earth and sky respectively) but Duat has none - maybe they knew it was a bad idea to give sentience to something which was expected to swallow every living thing <3
