"The species of mooncat lives in high unreachable mountain tops and in the underworld realm. Neither feline nor hailing from the moon, its appearance suggests relation to the procyonid family though other characteristics indicate less natural origin. Society is strictly matriarchal with rank nominally indicated by intelligence and sorcerous ability. Males are kept docile from birth on a diet of milk, to which the females are relatively immune. Mooncats live on a diet of such plant life as may grow in the sunless rooms beneath the mountains, and this includes the plant which bears the black fruit. Consumption of the black fruit is thought to lend mooncat milk its tranquilizing properties and also to elicit such extraordinary development in female of the species.
