His free hand is kind of in an awkward position... the way its being held makes it seem like he's trying to 'fan the hammer', but his hand clipped through his abdomen.

I can see where you're coming from, yeah. The intention of the arm pose was simply getting the free arm out of the way, while the other is actually behind his back, but the angle and, as I retest the pose myself, the fact that his hand on the gun is backwards certainly don't help.
