Lighted Ice Feels Nice

Da'alrakken

Tracy Arm, Alaska

50 miles south of Juneau, there is the glacially carved fjord of Tracy Arm. It is part of Ford's Terror National Wilderness Area, which includes another fjord and glacier, Endicott Arm. I will not go into the details of the name of Ford's Terror. It would take much to long. A good 'net search will do. Harbor Seals use the ice calved off the face of the Sawyer Glacier that lay at the headwaters of Tracy Arm. Seals like the isolation and the protection of the ice. They are safe from Bears and Killer Whales that would put the nom on them. The sky was overcast, typical for Tracy Arm. The muted light was refracted by the ice in a most unusual way that give the impression the ice is lit from inside. This Harbor Seal was very tolerent of the cruise ship I was working on. They are normally very shy and slip into the water when frightened. The two combined makes for a very nice pic!

Arphalia, thank you for those kind words. It never seem difficult to take a picture of something that is NOT stunning while in Alaska. Thanks again for taking a look! }:=)
