Mia and Butter are not only buddies, they're cuddle buddies. This is because when you make friends with an embis, you either like hugs a lot, or you put up with it.
This is definitely the former. It's a bit like having a big friendly dog, if you also keep in mind that she's fully sapient, much less slobbery, a good conversationalist, and a mother of two.
