Candlepin Alley Cat by Cyan Glaciertooth

Candlepin Alley Cat

Cyan Glaciertooth

Over the past few months, while the number of active COVID-19 cases started to go down again, I went to take up candlepin bowling. My interest in candlepins has been its highest in nearly two decades. Interest was high then, back when the Wal-Lex Bowling Center in Waltham, MA was still around. I got to participate in a league during my senior year in high school, 2001-2002. In 2002, however, the alley closed down. In its place now is a CVS.

Anyway, as for what candlepin bowling is, it's a version of bowling somewhat similar to regular ten-pin bowling, except, as you can tell from the picture taken, the balls are smaller, similar to that of bocce balls, the pins are skinnier (but there's still ten of them), and the rules are different. Bowlers get to roll up to 3 balls per frame, instead of just up to 2, before resetting the pins. Candlepin bowling is most common around New England and Canada's Maritime provinces.

With my interest in candlepins making a comeback, I decided to do draw Cyan bowling in this picture I took at Central Park Lanes in East Boston back in March.

Candlepin is also more challenging than more common ten-pin. There has never been a perfect game in Candlepin.
