Once in the mind of a five year old girl
with long brown hair
there were dragons and dinosaurs
wizards and werewolves
spaceships and magic
and she never won any game
in kindergarten
but that was okay
because she had her stuffed Pikachu
and the love of her mother
and her family
and the little boy down the street
she played Hotwheels with.

Once in the mind of an eight year old girl
with blonde hair with purple streaks
there was math and science
and worry and preparation
and she still didn't win a prize
in the science fair
and the bullies always took her lunch money
and they broke her nose after school
and her mother was always at work
and her mother's boyfriend touched her in weird places
and she had moved across the country
and never saw her only friend.

Once in the mind of a twelve year old boy
with long brown hair with blonde tips
there was stress and self-hate
and low grades and summer school
and he never won any school games
because he didn't enter anymore
and the eighth graders threw his books into the street
and his mother was always crying
and her boyfriend made him uncomfortable
and his first crush never knew how he felt
and he never got the chance to tell.

Once in the mind of a seventeen year old boy
with red hair with blue bangs
there was despair and a razor
and self-loathing and abuse
and he never got the good grades
in any classes
and he didn't have many friends
and there were words scarred into his legs
and his mother was always sick
and he hated himself more than anyone else
and held the gun in his hand
and pulled the trigger.
