Nyiang Eek Huntress by Cowrie

Nyiang Eek Huntress

Cowrie

A predator huntress of the Nyiang Eek people, having already fed herself, likely on a wild boar judging by the size of her belly, takes aim at another creature with her blowpipe with intent to take the new kill home to share with the rest of her tribe.

The Nyiang Eek are a group of mostly-lizardfolk hunter-gatherer tribes in the world of Bogsea. Specifically, they're from a region of a country called Sikang, but they are culturally distinct from mainstream Sikangese society. Visually, a member of a Nyiang Eek tribe can be easily distinguished from someone from a proper Sikangese settlement by attire. Inland, mainstream Sikangese dress consists of broad-legged trousers and a long tunic slit up to the waist on both sides. In coastal regions and on the Sikangese islands, sarongs are more common, with both sexes wearing the sarong around the hips. In that region, men typically go bare-chested, while women of most races usually wear a second wrapped garmet around their torso called a kemben. The Nyiang Eek on the other hand, typically just wear a loincloth in men, with women sometimes adding a wrapped top that only covers the breasts (as opposed to the kemben, which covers much more of the torso). Nyiang Eek clothing is typically made of barkcloth waterproofed by latex, both materials harvested from the water fig tree.

The water fig (not seen here) is a medium-sized tree native to freshwater swamps in Sikang and surrounding lands. It produces a latex that is usable for both creating rubber objects and for waterproofing cloth. Its bark can be harvested annually to create barkcloth or paper, but the wood is too soft and waterlogged for most uses. Its fruit is smaller than many types of fig, but still fairly palatable.
