What's in a name?:

Koh'Are Sol is Gaian for "child of Sol". It was the name given to her when she was created, and she is only referred to by it when addressed by higher-level creatures, such as dragons. A "formal" name.

"Kohaku" is actually a corruption of her true name, one she adapted after spending a few decades in Japan. She made the mistake of interacting with humans there, and when she told them her name, they misunderstood, believing she called herself "Kohaku".

The name fits her, as kohaku can be translated into "amber", the color of her eyes.

"Kasshoku Hikyuu"--which may or may not be accurate, correct me if I'm wrong--was the name given to her in the few, mostly lost, stories about the "ferocious, leopard-like beast" that stalked the forests and rivers in Japan a long, long time ago.

After being scolded by the higher-ranking dragons for interacting and befriending humans, Kohaku left the Japanese forests she called home and relocated to Africa, where she stays now. Africa feels more like home to her, and tribes who claim to have spotted her call her "Mnyama", which simply means "beast". It's thought that "Mnyama" is a guardian of the savannah and its creatures. It's rumored than a handful of poachers have met their ends at Kohaku's claws.
