Light The Way

Häpp, here it is. I have been working on a "high concept" for school (at least that is what the assignment was called), which is basically an idea for a game. A (big) part of the task was to draw images relating to the game. Lots of painting since I really feel I need to practice on that. I decided to create something that would work as a prologue for the actual story this character features in.

The story takes place in a lighthouse which is where Sot, the main character, lives and works. One day he finds that the entire tower has gone dark and quiet (for reasons I can't explain without spoiling the main story majorly). The other workers are nowhere to be found. Equipped with a lantern of fireflies, he must find a way to escape by scaling the tower, as the bottom entrance door has become sentient and threatens to eat him if he tries to go through. The player guides him up the tower while solving puzzles and interacting with the spirits of the now dead workers, who cannot find their way out because it is too dark. Sot can choose to give them a firefly, which will help them exit the tower, but he only has a certain amount of fireflies. Without light, it is unlikely he'll ever find a way to escape the Lighthouse...

There are two endings to the game. In the Bright End (which is also the true end), Sot makes it up to the lantern room and lights the big lantern with his remaining firefly/fireflies. This attracts a "strange" flying creature to the Lighthouse who saves him. If the player gives away all of the fireflies before reaching the lantern room, well... you'll get the Dark End. Which doesn't end very well for Sot.

That should do it. There's more to the story and the mechanics of the game, but it probably isn't interesting enough to write down here. Tomorrow I will submit another picture I did for this task. I kind of like that one so it gets an individual upload!

    Sounds like an interesting concept.

Yay, horror! In a lighthouse. That is interesting idea for a game. And then it becomes true.
Plus artwork is great, obviously. Now to spend rest of the day wondering how you made the rocks under the lighthouse look so great, haha.

It wasn't intended to be horror, but now that you mention it... I guess some things in it could be interpreted as disturbing.
As for the rocks, I just scribbled. Scribbleribble and wham, rocks that actually aren't shaded realistically, but ah well.

Non-intended horror, nice there haha. Horror is not common from you anyway so it's nice to see it. Even the way how you say the ''Dark End'' would be like makes it sound like disturbing.
It may not be realistic shading, what matters is that they really look like rocks. And to me, they really do.
