Dakota sat at her table, phone screen illuminating the night around her. She watched the image on the screen, hoping something would change, that something would show a sign of life in the one she thought was a true friend. However, nothing changed. Not for an hour, not for a day as Dakota did her best to resume her normal life, not even for a month did anything change on that screen. Every time Dakota saw it, it felt like the device in her hand got a bit heavier, until she could barely hold it anymore. The lies had been revealed after a lifetime of betrayal, and the true weight of it was too much to bear.
One day, the gray-furred fox dropped the tiny anvil, unable to keep it within her grasp any longer. Despite hearing a definite cracking sound, Dakota stood in her small apartment, unable to shake a positive sensation that had overcome her. Before she knew what was happening, she found herself stomping on her phone repeatedly, crushing it under her footpaw. Her bushy tail wagged as she picked up the phone again, turning, and hurled it against the nearest wall. Every bit of destruction felt good, and it only felt better as it went on. Soon, the phone had broken in two from the damage, and Dakota had no plans of fixing it.
The rest of the day passed as the two pieces sat on the floor, untouched by the fox who had broken it. The next morning, the fox began her day by combing her fluffy, bright orange mane, which went between her ears as well as flowing down the middle of her back and ending at the base of her tail, which had its own ring of bright orange near its tip. Before breaking her phone, she had planned to meet with someone she knew was a TRUE friend. Someone who could help her recover from everything that has happened.
