Shadow Panther by Cerih

Shadow Panther

Cerih

Another A3 drawing, this time of a black panther. I loved doing this and particularly like the eyes and the face. I added some pale yellow to the eyes, the only colour in the drawing, the make them stand out more. Otherwise this, like all my monochrome drawings, was made with just one shade of cool grey. The scan, as always, is awful.

Original for sale, note me if you're interested.

Art by me.

How DARE your scanner to ruin everything!

If it was my scanner, I'd get a new one, but I can't really ask my work to replace a photocopier just because I don't think the scanning facilities are good enough for my exacting standards. *sigh*

Interestingly, my friend Charha has just tried fixing the awful scan for another panther picture (I'll upload it tomorrow as it still needs a bit of digital retouching to fix the damage done by the scanner) and she added a similar amount of extra contrast to try to get rid of the stripiness of the picture. It seems to have worked fairly well in both cases. Thanks very much for your fix!

Gorgeous! The fur looks so velvety and soft!

It does, actually. I was very mindful of the texture of the fur while I was drawing this, as it is far more evident with a monochrome drawing than it would be with a full colour one. Much of the time, the fur is literally drawn one hair at a time. Only slighlty insane, now that I think about it. O_o

NO! I wouldn't call that insane! More like, really really reaallyreally attentive. Which is good, I mean, it really pays off! :3

I'm just not sure how I managed to do it, given that I have the attention span of a gnat. O_O
