My husband took some photos of a chimp when we visited a zoo in Tenerife last summer. I felt bad for the chimps there as they all looked really depressed. I drew this to try to convey some of the wistfulness of an animal that doesn't below in a cage. Despite the sad subject matter, I loved drawing this and I'm really pleased with the way it turned out. Even the scan isn't too bad, for a change.
Original is for sale, note me if you're interested.
Art by me.
Thanks! I've traditionally shied away from primates, thinking their faces too difficult to draw, but with my new monochrome style it turned out to be easy. I'm kind of in love of primates now and have also drawn a gorilla. I'll have to wait until Monday to upload it though, since it's done in A3 and I need work's scanner to scan in A3 stuff.

Ugh, I feel the same way. The chimps and other big apes just don't do well on display like that. :\ This bums me out just looking at it, there's so much emotion and sadness here. You captured it really well. :3
I wonder if he's/she's doing any better...
