I appreciate how much of a story can be told between the lines. There are no "as you know" speeches or obvious exposition bludgeoning, but just from context you can infer a lot about the familial relationship. Hell, knowing who Kent and Daniel are from the other comics, you can probably even guess where the estranged father thing came from! And it's highly possible that guess is wrong, of course, but still. Until it's actually addressed in more detail, this little snippet gives the reader a really good tentative starting point without having to stop and infodump to bring everyone up to speed.

    That is really good writing.

oh gosh, thank you! that's the most anyone's ever said about my writing and it is melting my heart, especially as I was a little worried people might think i was just throwing this plot in out of nowhere and out of context. I'm glad you appreciate it :>

Well, I am a writer, first and foremost! I tend to notice these things.

It's definitely easy to drop things like that without context if you're not careful, but this is more like really good effective minimalism and conveying information through the context. I think the difference is that the things presented here are an effective tease, but still fairly easy to figure out if you think about it. The bad and clumsy attempts at this leave the reader thinking, "Wait, what? What are they talking about? Why did they just mention that out of nowhere? Who's that guy? What??" By contrast, what you did here is just abrupt enough to be a little startling and eye-opening and whoa, but without leaving anyone behind. The reaction is more, "OHHHHH. Oh, wow. :O"

It can be a fine line between the two sometimes, though, and you should definitely be proud that you pulled this one off so well!
