Rigor Mortis

caper-dj

“Like one, that on a lonesome road
Doth walk in fear and dread,
And having once turned round walks on,
And turns no more his head;
Because he knows, a frightful fiend
Doth close behind him tread.”
The Rime of the Ancient Mariner~ Samuel Taylor Coleridge

Captain Davy Jones. I started working on this back in May 2014 and it became rather neglected. I cannot begin to tell you how many times Photoshop froze or crashed while working on this piece. I almost gave up on it, but it kept calling me back...no matter how much progress I had to recreate after losing it. I ended up switching to my older computer to work on it. I played my music on my newer one at the same time :XD:

I love how he turned out, though I need to work on my lighting/shading a bit, me thinks. ^^; I wanted to give the appearance of him materializing out of the darkness, as he is so well known for.

The title "rigor mortis" is a medical term for one of the recognizable signs of death which is caused by chemical changes in the muscles. It causes the limbs of the corpse to become stiff (which is what I would think would happen to anyone who was unfortunate enough to meet up with sea devil). I would think that Jones is rigor mortis...a recognizable sign of death.
