Day three, and it’s time for something that won’t kill you! Probably.

It’s the Chochin-Obake, a type of Tsukumogami.

Now, with my first image, I insinuated that yokai are only made when something becomes impure. In actuality, Yokai is a term for any supernatural creature in Japanese folklore and mythology, and can be a term used for a variety of creatures. Tsukumogami for instance are objects that reached their 100th birthday and became self aware.

Chochin-Obake are paper lanterns (chochin) that reached their 100th birthday and became self aware. Tsukumogami are generally not aggressive and may only play small pranks. Unless you abuse them of course.
