Melanies Flowery Watercolour Fun

calicokatt

Note: I simply just copied and pasted the description for this from my deviantART gallery, so please excuse any wierd spaces and stuff, since those are probalby just from icons and things that won't work here. :)

Soooooo..... I`ve been wanting to try other art materials recently. Hence why I`ve been buying and hording art supplies like crazy these days.

Now, granted, a lot of my art supplies just sit there for months on end before I use them. I have a lot of boxes of coloured pencils that haven`t even been open, which is funny because I only recently realized this fact when I was organizing my room (which is pretty much my Batcave...Or these days, its become a bit of a Catcave. XD) and I found like, ten boxes of coloured pencils. I then told Josh to not let me buy coloured pencils anymore until all the ones I have have expired. XD

But I can almost guarentee to you that I will, eventually, buy more coloured pencils... I`ll come up with an excuse as to why I need more.... I seriously need to go on that Hoarders show. The only difference between myself and one of those hoarders on that show is that I`m really good at cramming thngs into my closet and out of sight.

Anyway. Back to what I was saying. I really want to try different mediums, and really just push myself artistically these days. I always love working with coloured pencils but working with paints is quite relaxing, even tho I honestly think I`m not very good with them. I bought a new set of watercolour paints a while back; a lot of my previous watercolours kinda like, dried out and stuff, and one morning I decided I wanted to do a painting.

Melanie is a good experimental character. There are reasons for this. See, her colours are relatively simple; meaning, I didn`t just pick up a brand specific colour and used that for her body or hair or something. (I have some characters who have colours that you can only find in certain colour pencil brands, and those colours can be tricky to emulate.) She has light brown hair, and her body is a peachy colour, blue eyes... So yeah. Most of those colours can be found in all brands.

Fun fact: A cats purr can actually do a human good, improving bone density and promote healing. I just read that just now and thought that was interesting. YAY FOR KITTEHS

Anyway. So Mels is great for experimenting because of her fairly easy colour scheme. Honestly, my characters are pretty simple colourwise but..anyway. So I doodled this picture of Melanie on some watercolour paper and decided to paint her with some watercolours bought! Out of any paints types, I think I'm pretty okay with watercolours...Well, they are the only paints that I'm not completely DURRRRRRRR when using, anyway. So, using my new bunch of watercolours, I thought I'd do some practicing!

Sooooo.... Here she is! Its really just a simple picture of her, holding some flowers, and wearing a blue dress, for no reason at all. I honestly don't draw her very much in dresses, mostly because I, personally, can't see her wearing a lot of dresses because, like myself, she has some junk her her back trunk, and like myself, fails to find dresses that cover said back trunk because they make dresses really annoying these days for girls. But every girl has at least one dress in their wardrobe, even if its that dress you haven't worn for 20 years. Or, like, ever. I really like those flowy, poofy dresses, even tho quite honestly, I would never wear one because, you know, my ass and stuff. I thought Melanie would look really nice tho in a dress, because she has nice legs and stuffs. Soooooo...here she is, wearing a pretty, flowy, blue dress! Now, I realize she has the ass the size of a Mack truck (What? I had to use a Mac reference SOMEWHERE..... ) but honestly it's supposed to be flowy and things... The reason why I think her ass looks big is because of where I made her waist I should have drawn her body a bit longer, put the belt on her dress lower, and...yeah. Honestly tho the look I was going for was for the belt to be just under her boobs; I've seen dresses like that and I think they look really cute, but I probably shouldn't have flared the dress out so much 0.0 When I was doing the initial sketch of this drawing, her body looked fine and not so...gigantoass as it does here. (I basically draw all my characters naked and then I add thier clothes on) So...hmm. I have no idea what happened all up in here, but anyway. Maybe its one of those Victorian dresses that purposely have that gigantoass thing goin' on? I'm a little confused about her tail, tho. Normally I kinda just shove my characters tails somewhere on thier backsides, but with this one it kinda just looks like her tail coming up from under her dress somewhere (Which would probably make sense to a lot of you, altho, for me, I assume my clothing in my world is designed to support tails, therefore there are holes in places, yadda yadda...Anyway.) So.. that kinda looks out of place.

The colour I used for her hair came out a WEE bit too reddish, but it doesn't bother me that much. I just love how poofy her hair is! And lookit her cute little flower bow! I love matching, so she's just matching all over the place here. The background was done just with random splashes of colour. Again, nothing too fancy, just something fun I felt like doing! I really actually like how this one came out. I mean it's not the greatest, but I think the results came out nicely considering how I hardly watercolour and paint. Y'know, painting is a lot like using coloured pencils. It's all about finding what colours go nicely together, and figuring out the best way to shade said colours. I'm going to try to do a lot more paintings this year! I should have probably added something more exciting for the background here, but meh, I still like how she came out! This one is a bit oldish, maybe done sometime back in early fall. Something like that. So yes, some watercolour fun with Melsauce.

Hurr hurr. Melsauce. Betcha that goes well with Big Macs.........*Melanie gives me deathray eyes....*
