You may notice that I changed the numbering format I'm doing for these-- before I was counting it as the number I had done so far this year, but I changed it to the number of actual plein air I have done overall, to be more representative of the actual practice put in thus far. As I mentioned in this journal, I'm starting to think on the side about these being a good example of cumulative practice for others to see, especially since a lot of people are scared of doing environments. Eventually I want to do a more in-depth post on this trepidation people have, but I want to think on it more first and keep building these examples!
Anywho! This one came out darker than I intended or realized, as the sun was ahead of me (and thus the surface in shadow.) But it was good practice! I am putting away little bits of knowledge with each session. It is going to rain again this weekend, so you are probably stuck with more creek settings for a while as I take advantage of there actually being water :) Oh, and here is the photo for this one.
Thank you! I was frustrated with it my first few attempts so I am glad to finally feel like I am getting at least a little bit of a hold on it.
I don't even have the medium to do this kind of stuff, I don't feel that confident either. But you've been improving a lot.
You can practice environments in any medium, really! I'm using traditional mediums here partially because it is forcing me to make more deliberate decisions about things like process and edge control. But I did most of my initial environment practice doing photo studies digitally, and I still do those sometimes! It's much more about just doing the practice (and accepting that it won't be great at first) than about the medium or quality of supplies you are starting in.

The more I see of these the better they look. You're improving with each one you upload. You are getting much better at the water too.
