Adecian 'Tlanota' Arquebus by Caelan (critique requested)

Adecian 'Tlanota' Arquebus (critique requested)

Caelan

One of my portfolio pieces I slaved over the last couple of months; a standard firearm for the Adecian army.

I've hardly done any firearms before, so it was an interesting challenge- the study phase was much more fun than I expected! I had no idea there were so many gorgeous ancient firearms out there from history, since all guns today are, well, pretty ugly and lacking in any design sense. Stuff from prior centuries has all sorts of intricate gilding and more elegant shapes, though. I was pleasantly surprised, since I'm not really into guns as a thing normally.

      Ha! I did look at a lot of Middle Eastern firearms which were really neat, but I don't remember that one specifically coming up. Cool!

        I think you did really well, weapon design is hard.

    These are actually really believable firearms. o.o;;;

    They look usable. :3

      Ah, thank you! I do strive for things making sense in that way.

    Cool, most people who do fantasy settings neglect, avoid firearms... you've embraced them. So, if you don't mind me asking, are the different styles used by different nations or do these get personalized by each soldier?

      Thanks! The silhouettes at the bottom were just variant ideas that I went through in the process of arriving at this final design :) But yes, the overall style would vary more by country, and then maybe with some sub-groups or regions producing slight variations on that style. There wouldn't be much in the way of personal alterations, though, unless a higher rank person was wealthy enough to commission a personalized weapon.
