i’ve been reading… way too many mermaid au fics. so i MADE A MERMAID OC

this is Pania, although her real name is not pronounceable by humans. the name was given to her by the Māori peoples of New Zealand
Pania is a morph of mermaid that resemble seals, her appearance in particular being very similar to leopard seals. she tends to roam from the cold antarctic circle all the way up to New Zealand. why? who knows, she’s a private creature. despite being private, and occasionally aggressive, vengeful, and even slightly sadistic, she’s very affectionate with the right people. it’s easy to win her favor if you offer food or interesting objects for her to play with.

Pania is around forty years old, her people’s life spans being slightly longer than humans. the human equivalent of her age would be around twenty-seven. she’s quite strong, and large, reaching 15 feet from head to tail tip easily, and weighing close to 1400 pounds. she’s a loner, as many of her morph tend to be, except when she’s feeling particularly friendly and/or mischievous and wants to hassle other creatures, even humans.she has no qualms about drowning people if they rub her the wrong way

she has a sweet face, but she’s a rascal at best, and a living nightmare at worst
