My own father many years ago sat me down as a child and told me quite the story about his own family and their amazing heritage of being individuals that were part of a legacy closely intertwined with the legends and mythologies told all around the world. He taught me about the forgotten ancient past they participated in and the struggle to preserve it over the following eons, as the rest of the civilized world endured many disasters and thus lost sight of what was really important to the people. He also taught me about the rise of corruption and how it seduced the human race into creating some of the darkest moments in history. The worst to date being the Dark Ages.

He taught me of his family's achievements and their valiant efforts to protect their share of that forgotten ancient past. He showed a particular fondness for telling me about their contribution to the defense of select individuals, who helped with the preservation of this lost history and would eventually give birth to three distinct modern cultures that exist today. They were people like us and yet also different. This also put them in danger of being completely eliminated during that dark chapter of history. As reward for their sacrifice to help us, my dad's family helped with the relocation and further protection of these people. As the centuries went by, the descendants of these people would eventually become brave enough to begin establishing their own cultural identity again.

The oldest of these cultures had already been established for thousands of years and forced into hiding as the Vatican began its aggressive conversion to Christianity across Europe. Although these people have gone by many labels over the following centuries, they currently organize under the joint label of Pagan/Wiccan. Many of you likely connect with these people in some way or another. Eventually members within this culture began seeking pursuits not that different than the distant ancestors of my dad's own family. They sought a stronger connection with the animals around them. Their modern day descendants use labels such as Therian, Otherkin or simply Werecreature.

There were those that didn't quite share the same cultural perspective as these people, yet had the same fundamental values and eventually found their place in the world of stage entertainment. As the world changed, so did they. There are simply too many labels to count, that became references towards this select third culture of people with a strong affinity towards animal archetypes. Today the most prominent label used is Furry. Some even prefer the label Anthro.

Where do I fit into all this? I am someone, that like a lot of you, have a connection to at least one of these three distinct cultures described. I am simply here to interact and learn more about what makes you people who you are and appreciate the fruits of your efforts to express the artistic aspect of your culture. Perhaps you might even learn some new things from me. I only ask that you have the patience and understanding to do so.
