Both Characters are "me".
Please don't steal or trace blah blah blah...
.........THAT COFFEE WAS ASKIN' FOR IT, I TELL YA!!
Actually there was a good reason why I did this doodle but totally lost my train of thought sometime in the process...
I think it had something to do with helping people see the difference in body type between the two...Maybe?
The "beast" is kinda...Bovine (kirin/wildebeest thingy?) and ...Shire is well...a horsey.
This DID teach me one thing- I am seriously thinking about simplifying "beast". They took me 3x as long to color...
mm coffee crime scene...
I honestly dont think 'simplifying' beast any more without removing parts of it's unique identity, an easy thing.
I think beast is gorgeous, and I love how intricate that Avatar is honestly...not enough people have detailed characters/personas/avatars that challenge them artistically and inspiration wise.
If you can't tell, I adore your Beastie :)
HA Thank you so much! I'm delighted that you like them so much!! :D
I guess I....Well, the reason I'm considering it is that I believe it's a BAD thing when the creations OWN creator/owner is so intimidated by the complexity that I just...I don't...want to...draw it!
That's a bad sign...it's one thing for me to be totally comfortable drawing them and ANOTHER person says they're too complex..but I"M intimidated. haha
That's when I think it's a good time to make subtle changes... and I promise the essence of the character would sill be majorly intact., if I DID do it.
I'd do little things like...reduce the number of spotting on the bum a bit, have some of the plating fused together...
Y'know subtle things that would help take off my intimidation, so I'll be more likely to draw them more. :)
Both are so cute. I think Beast is gorgeous as is but I'm sure if you change her she will be just as elegant. It's cool that you have both of them represent your body type now too, instead of leaving the beast as an ideal; ideal characters to me feel kinda dishonest and unfair to the person who creates them, if they hide behind it. I really like this piece.
Actually, I am really really sad and guilty to say this but even though they're thicker in feral form in this particular doodle, the "Beast" in it's anthro form still has it's "ideal" body type on the reference...
I'm absolutely not proud of this for many of the reasons you've stated! This is also why I barely use them.. if you've ever wondered why I rarely draw them. D:
It's because I've always felt that you're right, it does feel dishonest! (Not to mention I'm actually intimidated by the complexity of my own creation! haha!)
I'd like to think, though that because I use the Shire so much that I'm not "hiding" behind it perse'...
People do seem to prefer the "beast" however so I feel obligated to draw them occasionally..
If it makes you feel any better I am striving to become that ideal? I've lost a good amount of weight and I will continue to do so...so maybe...one day...they won't be me ideal, they'll be my reality. :)
Thank you for the compliments!! <3
Aw man, that's ok! I know she looks ideal in a lot of ways, I remember that, but the fact that you typically represent yourself in a more realistic way is really awesome. Plus you're willing to play with her body type as shown here ;3 You're not hiding behind her, and I meant that more towards people who have only an ideal fursona and seem to be afraid to portray themselves as they are. It makes me sad, we should be able to at least take steps to like ourselves as we are. Besides, everyone is a work in progress (that's my therapist's favorite mantra and it really helps me put things in perspective!). But yeah, I had a friend who had like 5 fursonas, and two of them were ideal bodytypes and the rest were her actual body as it was, warts and all; the idealized ones were to remind her of her weight loss goals and keep her motivated. I think that's a fantastic idea. I've been trying to draw my own fursona as I am, but I'm like....afraid to make her a new ref because in the 2013 one I was at my healthiest and looked so good ;-; but I shouldn't let that keep me from just being how I am and being unafraid to show it to others. I'm not that heavy at all anyway, but I'm still super self-conscious (thanks bullies in middle and high school I love you too).
I like both, but I am in awe of the detail in the beast. The realistic version you drew a while back for the reference was really unique and awesome. Even if you don't use it as a 'sona at some point if you just put it in characters it is REALLY a cool creature! I love it! Maybe you can make it a species?
Thank you so much!! I'm so glad you like the beast so much!! I'm not sure about making it a species to be honest... The beast is an creature created from taking all my old attempts at an avatar and merging it into one- As well as adding a few features suggested by watchers- So they're really special to me. I will think about it though!! Thank you for the wonderful compliments!
You are very welcome! I totally understand what you mean! It was just a thought as she is such an awesome looking creature! It would be cool to see you design some more of the species or even what a calf one would look like. I like both your forms though and your art! I totally understand what you mean by an complex character though! My main character for my graphic novel is a dragon/human hybrid and he is really complex and sort of drives me nuts to draw.. haha.
The both have their charms - it's hard for me to chose which one I like better haha. I love how intricate the Beast is and how simple yet full of character the 'Shire is (ok well both have so much character in such a wee doodle - can ungulates even whistle?? I find that to be very suspicious rather than the spilt coffee!).
Oh no!! They know our secret!!! ::puts away penny whistle:: !!!!!!!!!!!!!! ::flees awkwardly and clumsily::
AH WHAT A WONDERFUL THOUGHTFUL COMMENT!! :D I"m so happy to hear you like them both!! :D ( Most people prefer the "Beast" which is absolutely alright, but it's nice hearing someone likes the horsey too XD)
Looks great, both are full of quirky amazingness! which the beast has the edge with, though I am very biased toward the shire, because Shires are fantastic :D
