YARK
yAHrk
Springy little herbivores of the open grasslands, Yark are highly sociable and are named after the sound of their barking. They live and travel in fairly large groups of up to a hundred individuals, and use their numbers to give predators the run-around by causing seemingly endless confusion of jumping and darting all around and leading the predators to and fro until they are exhausted. Yark are unusually keen to others in their group in this way, and are thus exceptional in working together with a human companion. Within the group of Yark, individuals will dip their heads down low and lock horns and wrestle their way out of being stuck together for any competitive reason, such as mating rights, who leads the group where, or to just settle a bet. The horns appear on both males and females. Reaching a shoulder height of no more than 3' for either sex, Yark's social disposition and willingness to work as a team make it a fine companion, albeit a little competitive at times.
