AW15 Week 2 - Steampunk by Bitcoon

AW15 Week 2 - Steampunk

Bitcoon

I kind of feel like I ended up going a bit against the theme because I focused more on drawing people rather than drawing cool steampunk stuff. Bit of a missed opportunity, but oh well. I got a decent refresher on painting this week. Started with a sketch on one (trying to paint over it) and just blocking in the colors on the other. Definitely prefer starting with the sketch, though~

Enjoy this non-furry junk! I'm sure I'll be doing more animals next week, what with it being 90s cartoons week~

As always, you can check out everyone's progress at the fancy Google Doc (and add your week's submissions for others to see) https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet.....it?usp=sharing
or submit your own weekly theme/challenge ideas here: http://goo.gl/forms/aiVJ0cYvJz

    These are…actually quite impressive. o.o

The only, ONLY things that throw me are the size of the eyes and the ultra-dark definition on the guy's nostrils/mouth; it's kind of like an odd realism/cartoon combination. xD (just offering (hopefully) constructive crit, please don't kill me :P)

Yeah, I didn't notice the guy's huge eyes until much too late. You can kind of tell he was the first, transitioning from my style to painting realistic proportions. I... kind of like it, honestly, because it gives off a stylistic vibe, maybe a touch of anime influence.

I was going off of what I saw in the pictures I was referencing, but I never really took all the elements of the faces to a 'finished' state. I think the limitation of the color palette did a lot to dissuade me from really fleshing out the details properly, too. That, and knowing the program's tools and how to use them... that, and having any formal knowledge of how to digitally paint things outside of just whatever I can figure out on my own and what little traditional painting I've done in classes~
