But what kinds of fires does it extinguish?

Class A fire extinguishers are for ordinary flammable objects
Class B are for fires started with flammable liquids
Class C are for electrical fires
Class D are for fires started with metals like magnesium or sodium where adding water would actually fuel the chemical reaction

It's always good to promote being careful!
