Geckerns are small (up to house cat sized), degenerated wyverns who have taken to a niche of smaller prey. Unlike their larger cousins, they no longer rely on flight to catch the object of the hunt; instead, they rely on diminuative wings to help short bursts of gliding as they fling themselves towards whatever small critter or insect has their attention.

Noteworthy is their diminished intelligence (for a draconic race); rarely have geckerns shown intelligence higher than that of an average human toddler, making them ideal pets for those seeking companionship without all the fuss and muss of 'higher species.' Wild caught geckerns can be a bit fiesty, but they breed easily in captivity - giving rise to both a plethora of brillian colors as well as a wide spectrum of attitudes and personalities.

The geckern's original habitat is that of the rarely sociable mountain kobold. It is fortunate that they breed in captivity, as the original stock of these animals was closely guarded by the notoriously unsociable 'bolds. They tend to keep them in a manner similar to barn cats - that is, with the geckerns providing company and pest control, and in return recieving love, affection, and a nice place to nest. It is unknown if the kobold population tamed the geckerns originally, or the other way around!
