Jellyfish are awesome little guys. Kind of weird to be able to see one so up close and know how much awful pain they can deliver; just makes you want to reach out and touch it doesn't it?
I took this one (as I do most all of my photography) with a 50mm prime. No flash - I hate using flash and try and do all my 'light' adjustments in the camera with aperture and shutter-speed adjustments instead. This one was taken at ISO 1600 f/1.8 1/30, and was focused manually (my lens was having a lot of trouble focusing through the glass on it's own).
I put the front of the lens up to the glass and balanced it on that as best I could. But, I also took about 30 shots of them, and only about 4 came out actually usable in any sense! Since I shoot digital instead of film it's way more practical to shoot 50+ frames of the same subject - especially one that moves around like this one does! For just a moment though, they all stopped swimming around and just sat there billowing.
