Unwanted sequel to a terrible game

You didn't like it? I found it to be a wonderful game, minus the ending with it's unfitting music and a weak plot-point.

I have never in my life played, watched or read something that failed at the most basic concepts of story telling as hard as that game does. The writing is truly aweful. It throws all these terms at you that exist within it's world,. and it never fucking explains what they mean. There is no exposition. There is no "hey. This is how the world works." If you are establishing a new world, you NEED exposition or the reader/watcher/player is just left in the fucking dark as to what the world is and how it works. We don't know. It leave all of the explanations up to a seemingly endless journal. If I want to read a book,. I will read a fucking book. Mass Effect had tons of journals, too, but they were voiced. They were, also, supplemental. You did not need to go through them to understand the story. they were just there for people that wanted to know more about the world. Mass Effect did it right.

Then there is the gameplayl. It is the most dumbed down battle system in Final Fantasy history. you rum in a straight line. There is no exploration at all. There are no towns. There is no sense of non linearity. there is just running forward and getting into battles where you are encouraged to use the auto battle to get through the battle and, a good majority of the time, that will work. There are, also, level caps that keep you at the level the game wants you to be at tl beat what lies ahead. It takes away a sense of progression. Even the level up system is linear. There is no real choice. You take whatever is next on the path, and that is it. At least the license board let you pick from a few different things at any given time. In fact, Final Fantasy XIII took every single thing that Final Fantasy XII did right and threw it out the window.

        You know what? Here.

Spoony explains why FFXIII is objectively bad better than I ever could.

Quite franjly, it might be bad to say this as a Soon-to-be-pubished fiction author, but I didn't mond reading through journals to understand what it was all about. Things that were unclear I would search on the net and get a more clarified answer, such as what the Heart of Chaos really was. It never made much sense, and then I read the wiki on that subject and understood.

With gameplay, I enjoyed it much more than the older games, except for 12. I REALLY like the battle system in 12, but the system is not as thought provoking as in the Fabula (AKA the XIII games) series. I had a hard time battling Barthandelus (1st Encounter) in 13, only because I found my strategy with Paradigm Shifting to not work. With the Fabula series, you have to actually think about what characters and roles you will give them and when to exactly execute a command. Sure, you have to think in 12, but you get the option to pause battle while thinking through commands, which is not an option in the Fabula series. It is a very interesting battle system when you get farther into the game. Personally, I can care less about linearity. I don't see why it's such a big deal with many gamers. In my opinion, I'd rather do without sidequests and stuff, only because it takes more time and detracts from the true story, usually. The level caps do drive me crazy in 13, but it is non-existent in 13-2. You may argue that 99 is a cap in itself, but most of the original FF games also stopped at Lv 99.

Maybe I'm too much of an FF fan to say that the Fabula series is bad. I own most of the main FF games and I play them often. I grew up on FF and get excited with each main release (minus the online games). I am VERY excited for 13-3 to come out, and I will try to buy it the moment it comes out.

You should not have to do that. It should be explained in game. That is just plain bad writing.

The FFXIII battle system offers up no depth or strategy at all. All you do is switch roles and press X. Snooze. At least with a game like Final Fantasy V, it makes you think about how you want to build your characters before hand and what kind of party you want to have. FFXIII removes all of that strategy. It is Final Fantasy for beginners even more so than Mystic Quest was. Also, Mystic Quest had better story telling.

As of right now, there is no XIII-3. There is just an add on pack coming.

I love Final Fantasy. I love it a lot. IV, V, VI, IX, XII and Tactics are all brilliant games. I and II are pretty damned good. VII and X are forgettable. VIII, X-2 and XIII just plain suck.

I see. I like the newer games and you like the older ones, XD.

I know we should not have to do that in-story, but I see that it's how that it was orchestrated and it is a mistake that Square should realize for future games. However, that still will not stop me from enjoying the game.

As in depth of the fights, it is not addressed in the first part of the game, but when you get near the end of the game, it does start to matter and it does get more challenging and thought-provoking, esp. when you meet Barthandelus for the first time, like I stated before.

What do you mean by an add-on? I was informed that 13-3 was the most recent project, with Versus 13, and then KH3 next. I think I heard that on Twitter from Nomura-san himself.

They also have been working on 13 for 5 years. It was a long dev cycle, with maybe even a small pushback. I'd like to appreciate a game that has taken that long to make, rather then focus on small details of a game that don't even matter.

    With 4, 5, 6, 9, 12, and Tactics. I like 9, 12, and I have Tactics, but it is a non-working copy. I never got to play it, XD.

9 is an unforgettable story, with an added bonus of sexy rat-people.

12 has a so-so-story, but the battle system makes up for it.

1 and 2 I have yet to play. I own 4 and 6 on a SNES and I play it from time to time still. I sorta do not like them that much, even if I have been playing them ever since I was 7.

7 I own, but I do not like it at all, except for Uematsu-san's amazing music. I freaking hate 7 and I don't see why everyone likes it so much. I also own 10, which is one of the best FF games.

I also own 8, and I like it alot, except for the crappy Junction system. I also own 10-2, and it does plain suck, but Paine will always be my fav X-2 character, XD.

I've said my thoughts on the Fabula series, though.
