This was drawn in 2001, and my style has very visibly shifted away from TLK compared to the previous version.

The character's name was supposed to mean "star", an African word I heard in a documentary once and attempted to spell phonetically (as it turns out, the word was Sesotho, and is spelled "Naledi"). It wasn't until my college age (around 2005 or so) that the appearance of online dictionaries for African languages would allow me to finalize the names of some of the key characters

As aforementioned, this lion would go on to become Nyota.
