So this, is one of the males of Solstices race (known as K'ta Thukk). (Eurathilikas) Their claws are only partially extended here. They use their claws to spar in brutal fights with other members of the tribe and to shield themselves from incoming strikes.

Eurathilikas are one of the most volatile, territorial and reckless species in their home galaxy, with the males virtually always competing for mates, status or to become the next alpha within the tribe. Eurathilikas will stop at nothing to eliminate any potential threats or trespassers, even if they dont have a hope in hell they will fight their opponent to the death, and usually victory is theirs.

This is partially thanks to their immense strength, they are perfectly capable of taking down opponents around 3-4 times their own size, alone. And these guys work in groups, if you see 1 there are usually more around. Solstice Does have this kind of strength herself, but she is much better tempered than most of her own race and is much more reluctant to hurt creatures for territorial, or status reasons. It may be why she didn't really fit in with her tribe... and might have contributed in some part to her exilation...
