I laughed at the "mobile phones should be rigged to explode" part. And the 'Kids look at you like a superhero" part. XD
I've never ridden a motorcycle (too noisy for my sensitive ears), but I HAVE ridden as a passenger on a motor-scooter (Vespa). That was fun, but I'm not sure I'd have the guts to learn how to drive it. (I don't even like driving a car...too much anxiety.)
Too noisy? A proper stock muffler is really rather quiet. The wind noise, on the other hand… well, we use 15db earplugs for any freeway riding. :)
And if you're in any way timid about driving, you really shouldn't drive a motorcycle. It's not like you need to be a fighter pilot, but you had better have some good nerves. I commuted in Nashville for 5 years, so I was tempered in amateur NASCAR.
having lived in Atlanta for 10 years, AND worked for a company out of Nashville for 5 and a half years, I can definitely say that Southerners ALL drive like they are applying for a NASCAR drivers position...
but I'd take Altanta or Nashville over Chicago or anything north and east of Philly ANY day of the week... even in rush hour. New Englanders are NUTS.
(I grew up there and spent 20 of the worst years of my life up there. if it wasn't for the people I'd have liked New England)
