Yes - he's pretty good at it, too, but mostly he likes to sit places with a chessboard and a chess clock and take wagers on whether people can beat him. It pays his food bills, and the cafes he hangs out at always appreciate the crowd he can gather.

I could see them having a professional rivalry - like, they move in the same circles, and hear about each other's achievements. It's nothing personal, of course; I'd imagine they're both good enough sports about losing (even to each other) that they can hang out at the bar or wherever and swap stories and strategies. Ever seen how speedrunners act toward each other? Something like that.
