Bird World Problems: Back sleeping by ArrowQuivershaft

Bird World Problems: Back sleeping

ArrowQuivershaft

Nathan, after transforming into an anthro hawk, tries to sleep in his bed. Unfortunately for him, he's a back sleeper and he's not quite sure how he's supposed to get any rest with these wings moving around behind him. I actually have spent a lot of time trying to think of how a six limbed bird anthro would sleep comfortably in a bed, and I honestly haven't come up with a particularly good solution yet. Perching would be an option, but that's not exactly in a bed, now, is it. If you've got some idea of a way to make this work with these body mechanics, feel free to discuss it down in the comments; I'd love to see if someone else has a better idea than "Sleep on your stomach and splay the wings out".

Side sleeping. Mantle self with one wing, other kinda extended across the bed. Difficult for spooning, but likely effective. Also allows for use with blankets. Dragons commonly face such issues as well.

That'd work if they fold down like that, but generally they don't because the arms get in the way, at least in the art I have so far.

Shame you can't just assume that form, and find out what would work. It would probably work if your character didn't have human-styled arms/shoulders, but forelimbs more like a cat's. But able to drop down to the side like human arms, so you could just tuck your arms against your sides, and then fold your wings.

I can sorta see how that'd work.

Now is the time to draw... this research must be done! So yes, more art to explore the problem. Anatomically, I'd imagine the wing "shoulders" are below the arm shoulders. Might be valuable to draw some back views, with and without feathers, to see how the limb relationship would work. With my Nism (and other characters), my issue would be how to design pants that would work with a tail, but also work with digitigrade legs and sharp claws, which would make puting on pants one leg at a time... awkward. Not that my Nism are in the habit of wearing anything, but I do have some critters that do. My namesake character, when I write anything about him getting dressed or undressed, I just describe them as being "strap-on", so they can be put on and removed while he's still standing. But no idea how that would work, or look, in an actual image.

I'll have to see when I can afford more art to explore this!

Could always try your hand at a little sketch-work... though I'm in the same boat, needing someone else to draw my characters. Not good at sketch-work, myself. Better at coloring.

Maybe you put two single beds close to each other, but not touching. Then, he can lay on his side, with the lower wing in the gap between the two beds. Most of his body would be on one of the beds, but it might be uncomfortable if his legs try to fall into the gap too.

Kind of the same idea as https://xkcd.com/335/ (sfw), just with a bigger space for the wing.

This is probably the most creative solution I've seen so far! Kudos!
